aptestDue to budget cuts, students may now receive the weighted grade for their AP classes even if they do not take the AP test. Previously the schools covered the costs of the test and students were required to complete the test to receive the weighted credit. A negative to this is the cost of the tests. For students who receive free or reduced lunch it is a pretty costly $57.00. For students who do not receive aid it is a whopping $82.00.

Although this seems like a huge amount of money, compared to the cost of the class in college, this price seems little to nothing. In the long run, the decision has to be made between paying the $57.00 to $82.00 and possibly receiving the college credit, or accepting the weighted grade for the class without taking the test. This is a simple decision compared to the many to come in your adult life.

whopping $82.00!

Benefits of taking the class:
·         Receive an extra credit. (i.e: if you have a B in the class you will actually get an A.)
·         Being better prepared for you college class.

Benefits of taking the test:
·         Possibly passing the test and receiving the college credit. This means that you will not have     to take     the class in college and will save yourself anywhere from $100 to $500 dollars.

If you’re interested in taking AP classes in your upcoming years, you will decide between paying the money and taking the test, or just taking the class and receiving the weighted credit. These tests are no joke so if you’re going to take it you must be committed and sure about your decision, don’t flake out last minute. Know what you’re risking and what you can gain before making your decision.

Gook luck in your AP classes and on your tests!
