Senior Editor Tribute
Moving on Up
There comes a time in everyone’s life when we have to move on, learn new things, and realize that there is a whole world out there for us, and for many seniors, including myself, that time is now. We have chosen to quickly jump aboard the boat where young adults can follow their aspirations and see where life takes us. I am going to early grad, and so it is time to pass on my position as Senior Editor to some else. So this is my tribute to not only our paper, but to my fellow students and staff as well.As Senior Editor of The Galaxy, I can honestly say that writing for our school has been an enlightening experience. Sometimes you think that some things in life are just there to fill in the holes, but then you come realize those things you take for granted are actually there to teach you lessons along the way. It is a funny thing; growing up. You start at such a young age, and all you want to be when you grow up is a doctor, lawyer, a rock star, or a vet. Then along the way you gain knowledge and experience in life in a way that can be so exhilarating to the point that you go from wanting to be a ballerina one day, to a computer technician the next. Life works in miraculous, mysterious, amazing ways like that.
The fact that people can go from an average students who just gets by to an overachiever who will do no less then perfect with everything they do is amazing. The irony of transforming into something you never though you would be, just because you learned little by little from the mistakes you make, the people around you, and the view you have on the world that constantly drives you crazy because your heart is never content with one thing, has come to enlighten me. And then there is love, the amazing little four letter word that will one day rip apart every ounce of every feeling you have ever had, when your only weakness is your greatest sense of security, and it all happens in a way you will never forget. That is what you really learn from; personal experiences. I have learned and experienced more then I would have ever thought possible, walking the halls of our Kearny Campus. I have learned stability, insight, motivation, reality, friendship, and courage. Courage that I am now ready to use as my asset as I move on from our school and go out in the world and succeeded in every little aspiration that crosses my mind.
I have faith in my fellow editors that they will write to there best abilities, to not only get the news out to students and staff, but to teach you all something. Whether it be big or small, because when something someone writes, touches a student, parent, teacher, or anyone at all, it is a gentle reminder to all our Galaxy staff that this is the reason we write. Paulo Coelho once wrote, “The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and to never forget the drops oil on the spoon” (32) -The Alchemist.
So I leave with knowledge and courage and hope that you too will thrive hard, aspire harder, and dream big, but not forget the drops of oil on the spoon we hold.
