Summer Time

Is a teen's living really easy?

Yo it's da beach sonGoing to the beach, hanging out with friends, working a minimum wage job, or staying up till dawn and sleeping in till noon. Summer is near, and students at Kearny can’t stop thinking about and planning for their vacations.

Summer may only be 6 weeks away, but, for some, that feels like a lifetime away because the last few weeks of school are the ones filled with big projects, assessments, and tests.

“The hardest part is the anticipation, and the hard tests that they give us at the end of the year.” said Angelica Sanchez.

With Spring in the air, students are beginning to think of their summer plans.

Summer represents the best season ever because there is so much free time and no worries about anything

“I’m going to hang with my friends and go to the beach!” said SCT student Victoria Dougherty, “I’m also going camping with my dad before he goes on deployment.”

When asked what summer means to him, 10th grade DMD student Osmar Lopez said “Summer represents the best season ever because there is so much free time and no worries about anything.”

To most, summer means time to relax, but to others, it’s time to make some money. Many employers hire teens for the summer, and with openings at stores like Sears, Home Depot, and T.G.I. Fridays, there always seems to be an opening.

But your probably asking yourself, “Does having a job make summer better?”

“[It] is better because it is an easy way to stay active and earn money”, says DMD senior Taylor Trice.

For many teens, finding a job can be a problem.

A typical teen may put in many applications, but receive very few calls from employers.

No matter what your summer plans are, “chillaxe” and enjoy the short time you have off.
